About

I mainly run Happy Guide with my brother Michael Kinnaird — I look after the website end of things. It’s amazing how many little jobs and obstacles pop up, especially when setting up something new. If you run your own site, I’m sure you can relate!

I know from experience that Google doesn’t always provide an answer, so I thought I’d use my blog to post up my own experiences. If I can prevent even one or two heads exploding, it will have been worth it :-)

If you’re looking to setup a website from scratch, I highly recommend going with WordPress.com, for all kinds of reasons, these being the biggest:

  • You won’t get hacked. Self-hosted websites get hacked, it’s very difficult to prevent.
  • Your website ‘engine’, security and features are automatically kept up to date.
  • If you get a big link from a big website, your website won’t go down under the strain. Server load can be a big problem on self-hosted sites, as they become more popular.

If you need any advice, feel free to drop me an email — I’ll do my best to help.

Best wishes,
James
